James Cappio Obituary

James (Jim) Cappio

Greenville - James (Jim) Bruce Cappio, aged 76, passed away on March 7, 2018 after years of struggling with Alzheimer's disease. Born July 24, 1941 to Jildo Elmo and Anne Bruce Cappio in Montpelier, Vermont, Jim spent his formative years in the Washington, D.C. area with his younger sisters, Jill Anne and Jane Linda. After graduating from Fall Church High School in 1959, Jim attended Dartmouth College ('63) and later earned his master's degree from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business ('67).

An Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, Jim met Claire McCorquodale of McLean, Virginia while working at the Pentagon, and they wed on September 9, 1967. Over the next four decades, Jim led a highly successful management career in the consumer product, manufacturing, and consulting sectors. In retirement, he taught business as an adjunct at the University of South Carolina Upstate and became very involved in his church, St. Philips Episcopal. Throughout his life, Jim was a terrible but enthusiastic golfer, a voracious reader, and someone who built and maintained lasting friendships with the many people whose lives he touched.

Above all, Jim was a devoted husband and father. During their 50 years together, he and Claire raised four sons, Jim, Adam, Matt, and Clay. He was additionally blessed with three daughters-in-law, Gretchen, Tracey, and Kelly, and six beautiful grandchildren, Beatrice, Julia, Allison, Courtney, Peter and Georgia, to whom he was affectionately known as "Banda". Jim's family and friends will gather to remember his life at Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville, SC on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association through the following link: http://bit.ly/2HhZhEg

Claire & Family:
Very sorry to hear about Jim's passing. Jim was an excellent mentor and friend to me, especially in the early years of my career. He was always quick with a story - or an anecdote - and had an incredible sense of humor. Even more important, he was so very, very proud of his family.
