Dr. James J. Cremins

Dr. James J. "Jim" Cremins, PhD, age 79, of Swansea, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA.
Born in Waterbury, CT, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Bohan) Cremins. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School. He continued his education at the University of Connecticut, where he earned a doctoral degree in Special Education / Educational Psychology.
James practiced in diverse areas throughout his career. He worked as a Clinical Geropsychologist at Nova Psychiatric Services and Med Options. He offered his expertise and compassion to countless patients and colleagues at rehabilitation, memory, and long-term care facilities. He worked with people with traumatic brain injuries and chronic headaches to promote their health and well-being. James shared his knowledge at many professional training workshops nationwide on such topics as Alzheimer's and Dementia. He also enjoyed teaching at Boston College early in his career and wrote numerous articles published in professional journals.
Beyond his professional life, James was known for his many passions. A lover of books and pocket watches, he also had a deep affection for animals and a wide appreciation for music of all kinds. He enjoyed many good times on the golf course with family and friends. A race car enthusiast and driver, James brought the same focus and dedication to the track that he carried into every part of his life. Proud of his Irish heritage, he was a longtime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Newport, RI.
James is survived by his two brothers, John Cremins "Jack" and his wife Barbara "Bobbi" of Waterbury, CT, and William Cremins and his wife Nancy of Middlebury, CT; three cherished grandchildren, Riley Cremins, Leah Cremins, and Alexis Oblenis; his partner, Merri Garren of Taunton, MA; and several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his beloved children, his son, Jay Cremins, and his daughter, Colby Cremins Oblenis.
His Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 8:45 to 10:45 AM at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardeners Neck Rd., Swansea, MA with burial to follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
