Bordwine Funeral Home - Etowah Obituary

James “Jamie” Edward Miller, Jr., 56, of Etowah, TN, found peace and passed away after a valiant battle with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) on Friday, April 23rd, 2021.

Born in Jennings, Louisiana, Jamie graduated from Lake Arthur High School, earned a scholarship through the McNeese State University band (trumpet) and completed his Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1987. Embedded in the oil and gas industry as a Quality Director, Jamie’s career took him all over the world. He loved to tell (and re-tell) the stories of his life and travels (Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, South Africa, Russia, South Korea, and most recently, Saudi Arabia).

An avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman, Jamie loved the great outdoors. He treasured every morning he could climb in a deer stand and long afternoons spent fishing on his boat. More than anything, though, he loved to be home with the love of his life and wife of 31 years, Marion Holly Terrell Miller.

Holly, who survives him, will care for the majestic 96 acre property they own together in Etowah, Tennessee--Miller’s Red Top Ridge. Loyal canine companions Buddy and Toots will patrol the property in his honor. Jamie is also survived by daughter, Ashley Terrell Pierce Doyal and husband, Brian, daughter, Elizabeth Ann Pierce and partner Matthew Daniels, son, Caleb Martin Miller, daughter, Heather Miller Taylor and husband, Matthew. His precious grandchildren, Ruby and Franklin Doyal, will miss Pop dearly. He was so proud and anxiously awaiting the birth of his third grandbaby, Heather and Matthew’s daughter, Lennon James Taylor, due this fall.

In Louisiana, Jamie is also survived by his loving mother, Linda Gay Tarver Miller; sisters, Marcia Lynn Miller Whitlow and husband, Jerry, Gayla Lea Miller Istre and husband Dwayne. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family.

He was predeceased by father, James Edward Miller, Paternal grandmother, Mecille Thelma Howard Miller, Paternal grandfather, Willie Miller, Maternal grandmother, Frances Idell Robert Tarver, Maternal grandfather, Louis Napoleon Tarver, and nephew, Brandon James Whitlow.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Hickman officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, prior to the service.

The interment will follow the service in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Matthew Daniels, Matthew Taylor, Tom Mills, Bob Mills, Jerry Whitlow and Dwayne Istre will serve as pallbearers.

We request social distancing and wearing masks.

Not sure what to say?

Will miss him.
Will miss his non stop talks...
A great gentleman, motivator and an inspiration.
Rest in Peace my friend.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, as you say farewell to the earthly Jamie that you have loved for so many years. I have an image in my mind of him climbing that Stairway to Heaven. He has a huge smile upon his face, because he knows that he will prepare a place for all of you to dwell once again! Except this will be called "Miller's Whitetop Ridge"!

Holly, my heart aches for you and your family! May the Lord bless all of you with His love, peace and strength! Sending hugs, love and prayers!
R.I.P. Jamie

I am very sorry to hear about Jamies sudden demise. I use to ask his regards with Mr.Vinu. I haven’t met that gentleman. we had telephonic and email conversations over the phone. Such polite and respectful conversations, still remember the fruitful justification provided by him to the conversations. With limited period he stolen my heart, that resembles is maturity and experience what he gained. Our world is that much darker with him no longer in it. I will be thinking of you and yours during...

I am heartbroken to hear of Jamie's passing. I worked with him over 20 years and he was always a very kind and true gentleman. I have heard many of Jamie's stories that he would retell over and over especially of his work overseas and about his family. Wishing I could attend the services, but please know I will be praying for Jamie and his sweet family that he leaves behind. He is gone way too soon. I will never forget my great friend and coworker. May he rest in peace.

Jamie worked with us at ISI/Moody/Intertek in Amelia, La and truly was one of the most technically accomplished individuals. But more than this he was kind and caring. I often said to myself that if I had had a son, I wished he could have been like Jamie. I was struck with grief when I learned of his passing and extend our condolences!

Sleet tight my friend, very sad news to hear you had lost the battle but now you can rest in peace. We spent a lot of time together in Saudi walking back and forth from the Rezayta to the office and in the evenings over dinner and i will miss that good friendship we had. You were always very proud of your family and told many stories of what they were all up to and i got regular updates on the latest ideas or work that Project Manager Mrs Miller was up to with regards work to the house. My...

I met Jamie in Saudi working on the same project. Although I only knew him for a short while, we built a great working friendship. He has been taken much too soon and will be sadly missed.
