Jim Martin helped me and the PKD Foundation in so many ways for which I am very grateful. I enjoyed working with him as a staff member of the PKD Foundation for nearly six years and benefited from his leadership as Treasurer and as a member of the Executive Committee/Board. I have fond memories of him and our professional interactions and enjoyed how openly he shared his accounting expertise. He taught me how to make financial reporting easy for donors to understand. I also found comfort in knowing that with him as Treasurer, I could help raise money for the PKD Foundation with the full confidence every penny would work efficiently to help find a cure. Mr. Martin humbly served, asked tough questions and gave generously of his time. It was an honor and privilege to know him. My sincere condolences to his family.

Jim Martin was one of the first KU alums that I met when I began teaching here in 1988. He was welcoming, warm, straight-forward and a giving advocate for the University and the accounting department. Jim was instrumental in helping me develop the large introductory accounting class which I continue to teach on a regular basis. He was always willing to help our students to succeed. I am proud to think of Jim as my friend and will miss his good humor and optimism.

Dear Pat,
I am so sorry learn of the death of your husband. Although I did not have the privilege of knowing Jim, I feel as though I did because of the many wonderful stories you shared with us in the Administrative Office at Bishop Miege. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

What a wonderful man your Jim was, fun and funny and an all 'round Good Guy. The years kept passing by and we just thought we'll be out next year, and am so sorry that it did not come to be. God will surely wrap his arms around him and hold him tight, just as I know he will all of you.

In 1976, Jim hired me to start the health care practice in the Kansas City office of Baird, Kurtz and Dobson. He was firm but fair and highly honest and ethical. You always knew where you stood with Jim. He did not beat around the bush when he had something to say. Jim was a good leader and always expected the best from his people. Although people were sometimes intiminated by his personality, beneath the surface, Jim was a kind, compassionate and a generous person. After his retirement, Jim and I became friends and went to some Chiefs and KU games and had some enjoyable lunches to talk sports and to reminisce about the good old days. I will always remember Jim for his friendship, leadership and integrity. Jim Martin was a great man and a good friend and I will miss him. My deepest symathies to Pat, her children and the rest of the family. May your family be comforted knowing that Jim is in a better place.
