James E. Padglick

James Edward Padglick of Levittown, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on February 24, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Betty A. Stevens Padglick. Jim and Betty were married for 62 years. He was 87 years old.

Born in Burgettstown, PA, he was the son of the late Jacob and Anna Padglick. He served his country during the second World War in the US army in the European Theater.

After being honorably discharged and returning home he spent several years in the Pittston area prior to beginning his career with the US Postal Service and eventually moving to a new home in Levittown. He was one of the original residents of the Levittown community, and delivered mail in the community for 25 years.

Jim loved sports, especially football, baseball and college basketball. During most close games he enjoyed questioning all key coaching decisions. He always wondered, if given the chance, could he have driven the teams to victory.

His other life - long love was classical music including opera, Carmen being his favorite. He also enjoyed flowers, gardening and watching the birds in his back yard. He relished time spent on the beach, walking hand and hand with his wife along the water's edge. He enjoyed daily walks and during the summer one could expect to find him playing any variety of lawn games or a good game of Scrabble on the picnic table.

Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to his family. He greatly enjoyed family events big and small, took pride and enjoyed all family milestones and made time to treasure each individual family member. All will remember his kind and generous nature and overwhelming support.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Stevens Padglick, children, Jim Padglick (Mary Ann), Ann Padglick Henry (Jim) and Jane Padglick Kane (Jim). He has 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren with one more on the way.

Family and friends are invited to call Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 66 Levittown Parkway, Levittown, PA 19054. Interment will take place on Monday, 2:30 p.m. at the Washington Crossing National Veteran's Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
