Janet Lynn Gardner Scott, 64, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on July 3, 2019 surrounded by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Bob and Martha Faye Gardner and her sister Barbara Ann Gardner. She attended Samford University before leaving to work for the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she retired after 38 years of service. Following her retirement, Jan enjoyed spending time with her children and two grandchildren. She is best known for her zest for life, competitive nature, engaging smile, infectious giggle, sharp wit and even sharper comebacks. She was an avid shopper and believer in retail therapy, especially when accompanied by her partner in crime, Billie Jean. She spent much of her time on Smith Lake, continuing to foster the legacy of the land and memories left behind by her parents. Above all else, Jan was a faithful woman of God and a long-time active member of Church of the Highlands, who cherished her family and friends. She will be remembered for her work ethic, grace, kindness, and sense of humor that she modeled all the years of her life. She is survived by her two children Ryan Scott (Melissa) and Emily Scott, grandchildren Elijah and Adalyn Scott, her brother Eddy Gardner (Karyl), niece and nephew Kasey and Bobby Gardner, close family friends John, Billie Jean, Brooklyn and Chace Spears, her two cats Socks and Cleo, and numerous other family members. The visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 12:30 PM until 2 PM at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will start at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
