The Mayor of the Hamptons
Jeffrey Nussbaum's friends called him the Mayor of the Hamptons. After 10 or 12 summers there, he knew more people than many meet in a lifetime. "If there were 300 people in a bar," said Arline Nussbaum, his mother, "he knew 200." Friends say he liked to get one group together with another — and then introduce the combined group to a third. Given another 10 or 15 years, he might well have managed to introduce one half of the Hamptons to the other.

A trader at Carr Futures, he was a big man — 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. His talent — besides making friends — was sports with balls. "Basketball, baseball," said Melissa Brunschwig, his sister. "Tennis, golf. Give him any kind of ball, he was good. It sickened his friends."

A die-hard New Yorker, he played ball with teams in city parks. Afterward, he went to bars, restaurants, clubs — anyplace where people mingled. "He was really, really social," said Mrs. Brunschwig. "We were shopping together in Secaucus. We went to two stores and he met people he knew in each. Everywhere he went — everywhere — he knew people. And if he didn't, he'd meet them."

Not sure what to say?

We never met except for your name and a white rose laying by your name at the World Trade Center . You will never be forgotten ❤

Our lives crossed paths so many times: Jeffrey played for me in Oceanside Little League in the 1970's, we were softball team mates in NCTL in the 1980's, and we met up countless times at happy hours around NYC while we both worked in the financial district during the 1990's. Jeff possessed the nicest, gentlest, yet incredibly powerful soul. The world misses you Jeff. RIP.

Another year, another ceremony. Always thinking about the friends that were murdered on that horrific day as well as the many that have passed since and those continuing to suffer. Rest Easy Jeff.

In 2015 we visited NY and went to the Trade Center and in one of the names was a single white rose . I took a picture of Jeffreys name and have been sharing his story ever year since on Social Media. I feel as if I knew you

I have fond memories of Jeff from my college days at Oneonta. He truly lit up a roomwith his million dollar smile and positive energy. I admired how easily he met knew people, his warmth, his kindness. He was a wonderful genuine. person. I keep him in my prayers ❤

He was a cousin to Erwin Jack Nussbaum and my son Alex Jesse Nussbaum, as was his father Larry a cousin to Erwin Jack. May he Rest In Peace.

lighting a candle in your honor and memory and smiling...#NYvsLA

If any of Jeffrey's family members sees this, I'm trying to reach his mother, Arline. I have something I would like to give her. It's a bracelet with his name that I've had since I worked with surviving family members of 9/11 in 2003. I'll explain in more detail if I can reach Melissa, Craig or Arline. I promise this is sincere. Traci Withrow

To my friend, Jeffrey Nussbaum who I met in college. Jeff was a loving, caring friend-the life of the party. What a sweet man!! We lost touch after college but I remember him fondly and I pray for him now everyday. There is a touching memorial at our college, SUNY Oneonta for him and all alumni who perished on 9/11. May you rest in peace my friend
