Jerome Ferguson Obituary
Houston, TX - Jerome Howard Ferguson, Jr., 85, of Houston, Texas, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013. He was born Nov. 14, 1928, to Jerome Howard Ferguson and Georgia Adams Ferguson of Shreveport. He was married to Patsy Cherry Ferguson, beloved wife of 54 years.
Jerome grew up in Shreveport and graduated from C.E. Byrd High School and Phillips Academy Andover before receiving his degree in engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport and an engineer at United Gas Co. before moving to Houston, Texas, where he became vice president of Pennzoil until retirement.
Jerome was predeceased by his wife, Patsy; and by his eldest son, Jerome Howard Ferguson III. He is survived by his sons, James Thomas Ferguson II and Edgar Hull Ferguson; his grandchildren, Georgia A. Morgan, Jerome H. Ferguson IV, Leland McCullough Ferguson, J.J. Parker Ferguson, and James A. Ferguson; daughters-in-law, Jenny Ferguson and Libby Ferguson Deans; sister-in-law, Julia Sippel; and dear friend, Dorothy Leflar.
He was a devoted member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston and enjoyed hunting, traveling, fine dining and cooking. Jerome was a generous and loving husband, father and grandparent.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013, at Osborn Funeral Home in Shreveport, LA. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. A subsequent memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, in the chapel at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas.
