Jerry Fogler

1940 - 2016

Born July 10, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY - Died July 13, 2016 in Rancho Cordova, CA at 76 years "young". Jerry Fogler lost his long battle with respiratory distress after experiencing asbestos exposure in the US Navy. He proudly served from Oct., 1957 to July, 1960, which included serving during Vietnam. He achieved the rank of PN2. He also received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, while serving on the USS Turner during the Lebanon Operation, Task Force 61, Syria and Lebanon (1958). He was introduced to computer programming under Admiral Grace Hopper. He attended RJJ Yeshiva in Brooklyn, NY and attended Weehawken High School in Weehawken, NJ and completed an A.A. in Business/Computers. He is predeceased by: his first wife, Enid (Turok); his parents, Harry Fogler and Blanche (Kahn); and his sister, Caroline (Fogler) Kanefsky. He is survived by: his wife, Nancy (Alpert); his daughter, Tammie (Fogler) Hersh and David; his son, Seth Fogler and Annie (Castillo); his grandchildren, Erin Hersh, Sean Fogler, and Amanda Fogler; and an abundance of relatives including nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. An extrovert, he touched the lives of many people. He is remembered for his generosity, warmth, playful sense of humor, kindness, ability to openly share his love, loyalty, and friendship. He will also be remembered for his culinary accomplishments, including cake decorating awards in his late teens, preparing Passover Seders for large groups of family and friends, which included creating his own Haggadah (the ritual prayer guide), and making latkes in a presentation on Channel 31 Sacramento. He achieved the goals of teaching vocational students (computers/business skills), owning a highly successful Dunkin Donuts store in Miami and also owning The Squire Deli. He had a passion for family, life-long friendships, gardening, his dogs, multicultural faith and traditions, and educating others. He was called a Mensch. He was a beautiful and courageous human being who didn't let the struggles of his disabilities slow him down or change his positive outlook in life.
