Parker Memorial Funeral Home - Bruce Obituary

Jimmy Talmage Whiteside, 84, Alpharetta, Georgia, departed from this life on February 28,2020 at Northside Hospital- Forsyth in Cumming, Georgia. Jimmy graced this world with his presence on March 28,1935 in Hickory Flat, Mississippi. He was one of five children born to the late DeWitt Whiteside and Rethie Taylor Whiteside.

Jimmy attended Myrtle High School and was a member of the 1952 graduating class. A man of great intellect, Jimmy furthered his studies at the University of Mississippi and graduated in 1958 with an Engineering degree. He used his intellect and college degree to serve his nation by enlisting in the United States Army, Critical Skills Systems, for many years. After his time in the military came to an end, Jimmy found employment with the Huyck Felt Corporation as a design engineer. He later opened his own business, Houses of Distinction, in which he designed and built homes. Jimmy loved spending time in the outdoors where he was nearest the Lord’s creations. A man with a green thumb, Jimmy spent many hours digging the dirt and carefully cultivating a variety of flowers and vegetables. He found relaxation fishing on the Sander’s Farm overlooking the cotton patch, as well as, caring for the cats he rescued. Jimmy and the words Ole Miss Rebel were synonymous for those that new him, he was more than an Alumni, dedicated fan was a more fitting term. February 6, 1957 marks the date Jimmy’s life changed forever, he married love of his life, Lavern Sanders Whiteside, on this day.  The couple spent a timeless 63 years together abounding with love and decades of memories. Jimmy was a God fearing man, who served in several church worship teams as a bass player. He held the esteemed title of deacon and Sunday School teacher. Jimmy didn’t simply pass away, he held in his soul the cure to death, a relationship with Jesus.

Jimmy leaves behind his beloved family to carry his precious memory. Loving wife, Lavern Sanders Whiteside; daughter, Scarlett Whiteside Nelson; sister-in-law, Ann Sanders Downing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, DeWitt Whiteside and Rethie Taylor Whiteside; infant daughter, Rosemarie Whiteside; sisters, Clyde Hathron, Erline Morehead, Marjorie Simmons, Vivian Whiteside.

Jimmy will lie in repose from 4:00 PM- 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce for friends and family to pay their respects. The sweetest and kindest man I have ever known met his Saviour this week.
I loved him like a father and there is a huge hole in my heart...he will be missed dearly! He was a fine Southern Gentleman with a great big huge Mississippi smile, twinkling blue eyes and a heart the size of Texas! He could sing a gospel song and fill the room as the Holy Spirit came over him, he would clap his hands and stomp his feet.
He was such a good listener and advice giver...but only if you asked ..he...
