Having supervised Joan during her time as a volunteer at the Museum, I agree entirely with Dermot's comments. Joan's enthusiasm and dedication were infectious and she was always good company. Through her work she has left an important legacy for the records of the collection. She was a lovely person who will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew her.

Joan was a truly lovely lady who live a rich and full life. For 21 years, I had the good fortunate to have Joan working for me as a volunteer in the Mineralogy Department at Museums Victoria. Joan completed an enormous amount of computer registration of the collections. Joan was a keen and knowledgeable mineral collector and a doer' who always contributed to activities of the Mineralogical Society of Victoria, where she was Honorary Treasurer for over 10 years. I was sad to hear of Joan's passing. I first met Joan when she joined the Mineralogical Society of Victoria in 1981 with her interest in minerals. She developed a keen interest in minerals and frequently went on collecting trips throughout Australia and overseas. She was a committee member of the Society for 10 years of which 6 were as treasurer. She was made life member in 1997 for her contribution to the Society.
