Joe Lewis Hart

We were visiting Grandma house from Alaska and we were all in the kitchen for dinner. Aunt Mildred and Uncle Gilbert were there and when it came time to bless the meal they asked Uncle Joes to pray. He began the blessing and when he was finishing the prayer(or so we thought) he began to pray more and more, Uncle Buster commented that the food was getting cold. Grandma hushed him. Still to this day we call grace Uncle Joes prayer. Dinner at Grandma's table was special when he was there.

My fondest memories of Uncle Joe were actually his quiet background presence in the contrast to your gregarious mom! One memory I have are of your mom was doing both mine and my sister's hair at Grandma Harts kitchen table - Uncle Joe and Uncle Buster in the living room watching football. Because I was so young, perhaps 6 or 8 for these occasions, Uncle Joe's presence in the house was clearly the calming influence. Everything and everyone was safe and equanimus when he was present.
