John was born on January 8, 1931 and passed away in March 2019. John was a resident of Beatrice, Nebraska at the time of passing. John Jr. began his schooling in Beatrice but continued to take trips to Hastings in the summer, where he learned about woodworking (a life-long hobby) from his maternal grandfather, Grandpa Gettmann. After John graduated from Beatrice High School in 1948, he enrolled in the ROTC program at Wentworth Military Academic in Lexington, Missouri, but transferred later to UNL to finish his bachelor's degree and earn a commission in the US Army as 2 nd Lieutenant. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice with Rev. Mark Schutt officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery with military honors presented by Beatrice American Legion Post #27. A family prayer service will be at 9:45 AM Saturday at the church. I've known John Bauer since I was old enough to go shoe shopping with my parents at the Bauer Shoe Store in Beatrice on Court Street in downtown. John and his father and mother were always there at the store when I was young in the 50's and early 60's. John had a deep voice and was always in a good mood. He sure did like to see the J.D. Barr family show up at the shoe store because he knew he was going to sell some shoes to the Barr family. John was a great salesman and had a very likable...
