Not sure what to say?

Rest in peace.

He was one of the best teachers I have ever had. I fondly remember my time in both his Greek history and Roman history classes. He was the true definition of a teacher and a scholar.

May you find confort in knowing that one day all pain and suffering and even death will be no more.

Aside from my father, no man had a more profound impact on my development than John L. Brinkley. His devotion to Hampden-Sydney and to its students was complete. His charm, his wit, his brilliance changed both the lives of his students and the legacy of the school which he loved so dearly. I look forward to paying tribute to our wonderful mentor and hope that all, who are able, will join us at Hampden-Sydney on November 10 to honor and celebrate the life of John L. Brinkley.

An Infectious Smile

A Memorable Reunion of Close Friends

He was an extraordinary scholar for sure, but what I remember most was his wonderful sense of humor.

My first thought was May he rest in peace, and that phrase seems to have occurred to many of the others as well. A life well lived.

Lux perpetua luceat ei.
