John Arthur Carlson

John Arthur Carlson, 67, of Whittier, California entered eternal rest on December 10, 2020.  John was born June 30, 1953 in Skaneateles, New York to Robert Carlson and Mary Jane Shouts.  He was the fifth of six children.

He was often described as rambunctious in his youth spending many days on Skaneateles Lake swimming in the summers and ice skating in the winters.  There are countess stories of him causing mischief with his brother Bob and the other “JC’s”.

In his twenties, John made the cross-country voyage to Southern California.  He boarded a Greyhound bus with a friend stopping at various YMCA’s along the way.  One of his first jobs in SoCal was at Disneyland as a ride operator in Tomorrowland; an experience he always talked fondly of.

John attended college classes at Cerritos College, his studies focused on information technology which he simply always described as “computers”.  He told stories of taking classes during the day and working in the computer labs while completing is homework by night.  He spent his career as a Computer Operator/IT Specialist most notably at Sinclair Paint, where he met his wife Debbie and Spelling Entertainment, where he got the chance to fix the personal computer of Mr. Aaron Spelling.

John was known for his quick-witted sense of humor and often very cheesy jokes.  He enjoyed watching all sports, a couple of his favorites were Syracuse Basketball and Angels Baseball.  He also enjoyed watching TV and going to the movies.

Luck was no stranger to John.  He was probably best known for his somewhat obsessive hobby of winning radio contests and playing the lottery.  On the radio, he won thousands of dollars, concert tickets and VIP’s to numerous events.  He would most often try his luck at the lotto while filling up his gas tank, winning hundreds of dollars on scratchers.

John is survived by his wife Debbie, Children Tiffany, Jeffrey and Alexander, Grandson Kyber and siblings Harold, Karen, Robert, and Pamela.

May John finally rest in peace and enjoy his eternal reunion with his father Robert, Mother Mary Jane, and sister Lynn.

Not sure what to say?

John was my best friend (whether he liked it or not) while I was growing up in Skaneateles. We lived across the street from the Carlsons and I would often get out of class early and wait for him outside of the classroom he was in. We would spend long hours in the winter creating elaborate battle plans with his green army men in his bedroom / attic. Good times. My family moved to California in 1966 but I never forgot Skaneateles or John. Oddly enough I also lived in Whittier for a while...

We will miss you Uncle John. We are so sad we won’t see you when we visit California but we know that you are in a better place. Memories we’ve made will be with us for ever and ever. May you now Rest In Peace.

I’m going to miss you my dear brother in law and all of your silly jokes too! Rest In Peace
