John S. DeLong, 81, of Bernville, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Penn State Health, St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township, PA.
Born November 4, 1942 in Reading, John was the son of the late John A. Wert and Grace A. (White) DeLong-Wert. John adored the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, Reneé (Montagner) DeLong.
John served his country honorably and faithfully as a member of the United States Army
John was an entreprenuer throughout his life. He owned and operated his own paint company, bred and raced throroughbred horses, and spent many years working his farm. John also owned and operated the Schuylkill Racquet Club & Fitness Center, Orwigsburg.
John was a 1960 graduate of Wilson High School and was a longtime member of the Boy Scouts, having earned his Eagle Scout. He was a car enthusiast and truly enjoyed spending time with Reneé golfing, antiquing and quiet times on the farm.
In addition to his wife, Reneé, John is survived by his daughter, Lisa DeLong, his grandson, Alex DeLong, his sister, Trudy Snively, his brother, Eric DeLong, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services for John will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Road, Fleetwood, PA.
A visitation for John will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS, 66675-8516.
