Not sure what to say?

Wonderful man who always made you smile. He was only a tenant of ours in San Diego but I would like to call him a friend as well. Love to his family and friends. VERY sad to see this and know he passed a few years ago. Flights of Angels to a lovely person and a real joy to know.

I met Johnny in '74 and am still his friend, and he mine. Sadly, I lost touch in '88 after moving from the San Diego area. To say he was intelligent, talented, imaginative, funny (great laugh!), and a wonderful human being are understatements all! My deepest condolences to all who knew out friend, Johnny. If anyone would like to share memories contact me @ Thomas.phillips23@gmail,com.
Aloha Johnny, Go Team Rat Pelt!

Sorry to chime in late...just discovered this page.

John was a great friend and I think of him often. From his tenacious pursuit of me to teach at his newly opened bass shop (I'm super grateful he talked me into it), to his masterful sushi inlay artwork on my basses, to our mutual love of music, sailing, Hawaii, etc., etc....we had much in common and always enjoyed hanging. Despite our hectic lives (and moving to Orange County), he made a point of reaching out every few months to...

Hot santa ana days of perfect shimmering surf, John riding his flex spoon at the north peak until the sun set, full moon sessions at Blacks watching spiny lobsters crawl across the sand below as we waited for a set. These are just a few of my memories I can have forever surfing with John. We all are very lucky to have known him.

I met John in the 10th grade while body surfing at La Jolla Cove. I will always remember him as a wonderful focused human being. Condolences to family and friends who will no doubt miss him.

Just heard the news from Steve Rice (Mt. Jeffers) I remember bringing my guitar over to his garage when we were elementary school to "start our band"...the Beatles and Beach Boys got us inspired. My thoughts and prayers are with John's family and friends....

I grew up in clairemont Johnny and his group were always an inspiration to us slightly younger group of suffers. Hope to see ya on the other side!

I HAVE NOT SEEN JOHN IN SO MANY YEARS. MY FAMILY AND I LIVED DOWN THE STREET FROM HIS PARENTS HOME MT. PUTMAN. WE ALL LOVED JOHN SO MUCH WHEN WE WERE KIDS; HE MADE US LAUGH SO MUCH. MISS AND LOVE YOU JOHN YOUR FRIEND CARLOS

John will truely be missed.

I am so sad to hear the news of John passing. He always made me smile. His words were always positive and encouraging. We always said to each other no matter where we were when a full moon would appear we would look up and send good loving thoughts to each other. I will continue to send loving thoughts every time I see a full moon. I will also think of him when I see the ocean. The ocean was his breath his inspiration. I will think of him often and he will truly be missed. It is still...
