John “Jack” Nellis Ellison, 78, a retired farmer in Pasco, WA died on May 27, 2010 with his family at his side. His memorial service will be at 1:00 pm Sat. June 12th at Hillcrest Memorial Center, 9353 West Clearwater Ave., Kennewick, WA. Mr. Ellison was born on June 21, 1931 at Grand Forks, North Dakota to William J. and Orpha I. Frank Ellison. He moved with his family at the age of nine to Anacortes, WA where he graduated from Anacortes High School in 1949. He married Bonnie Tilson, and together had four children. He embarked on a career in the plywood industry. He was superintendent of Regis Plywood in Olympia, WA, transferred and managed a plywood mill in Vancouver, B.C. He moved back to Olympia, and then moved to Vancouver, WA where he was general manager of Fort Vancouver Plywood. He then ventured out and became owner, operator of Ellison’s Industries in Washougal, WA. On Feb. 14, 1971 he married the love of his life, Marjorie in Seaside, OR, and her four children entered Jack’s life and became a large loving family. They moved to Pasco, WA in 1975 and became part of the farming community. He purchased a 256-acre farm in which he grew alfalfa, wheat, and beans. From 1992-2001, with his son Bryce, they planted a parcel of ginseng and harvested four crops. He retired farming in 2000. Jack and Marj were active members and he was a parish counsel at the Episcopal Church in Pasco in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. His favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing in Canada at Burns Lake and Nadina Lake; traveling with his wife to Mexico, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, England and Scotland; gardening (especially his roses); building museum quality scale model wooden ships and clam digging. He also had a love for aviation and ultra lights; Native American Indian culture and gambling. He loved his time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Ellison, Pasco; daughter, Darcy Nichols, Anacortes, WA; son, Bryce (Christy) Ellison, Pasco, WA; daughter Teri (Randy) Moody, E.Wenatchee, WA; daughter, Karen Sherwin, Everett, WA; daughter, Sunday (Lee) Schewin, Payson, AZ; daughter, Melody (Ted) Sturgeon, Seaside, OR; son, Dexter Winemiller, Seattle, WA; and son, Doug (Rhonda) Winemiller of Edwardsport, IN; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joan Carabba; a twin brother, William “Bill” Ellison.
