To the Hilfinger family,
i just learned of John's passing after leafing through the Syracuse alumni magazine. i am shocked and saddened. John was my roommate for my junior and senior years at Syracuse and my best friend there. He was a great guy with a terrific sense of humor and great intellect. Very often we would return to the dorm on Thursday evenings after having a few too many beers at the Orange and he would be asked to solve some complicated math problem by another resident and...

Last night I was watching Syracuse basketball on TV and thumbing thru the Alumni magazine that had arrived, only to discover of John's passing. I am so sorry to learn this.

John & I were roommates freshman year, fall 73 - thanks to whatever logic or random pairing made by the Syracuse Housing Bureaucracy. He was a great guy. Watson dorm had been modified to merge 3 rooms into a suite and there were 4 of us - though 1 left mid year.

I was a bad influence on him I'm sure, while...

Hilfinger family, Shocked to hear that John passed in April. A great friend from SU. Never forget a trip to Tully/Preble...and duck hunting on Black River near Lowville in 1975.

Dear Diane and the entire Hilfinger/Nelson family,
I was so sorry to hear about John's passing. I have happy memories of being with all of you for fireworks and water skiing, and wild games of chicken foot dominos. Thinking of you all and sending a large round of hugs.
Love,

To the Hilfinger family . . . I am very sorry for you. John was smart, hardworking and strong. I was lucky to know him as a close friend at Syracuse. If not for John I would not have made it thru freshman chemistry, I would not have pulled so hard in the Syracuse boats we rowed and I would not have met all the other smart and kind people at Syracuse who were attracted to John's friendship. He was one of the really good ones at Syracuse. We will miss him.

Dear Hilfinger family,

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of John. Many years ago John and I had a professional relationship when I worked at Searle/Pharmacia. We regarded him as an excellent scientist and he was a delight to work with.

Diane,
I was so sorry to hear of John's passing. I will be praying for comfort for you and your family.
