“Nice guys don't win ball games.” Never really knew why he said that.

I will say this, he's the smartest of us all - retired at 57 and never said yes-sir again.

Born in 1919, this is a guy who reached the age of general awareness in the Great Depression. A cheese sandwich for lunch meant two pieces of bread with a 4-square of cheese cut-up and dispersed to the corners so there'd be a spec of cheese in each bite.
