John O. Hughes, 84, of Barrington, NH, formerly of Lynn died Friday in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. Husband of the late Winifred K. (Williams) Hughes.
Born and educated in Airdrie, Scotland, son of the late James & Catherine (McCluskey) Mullen, he came to this country many years ago settling in New York, then resided in Lynn for over 50 years before moving to Barrington after his wife’s death2 years ago. He served in Her Majesty’s Royal Navy during WWII serving as a Stoker Petty Officer.
He was self employed as a Plasterer for over 50 years. He also worked as a Caretaker at St. Joseph’s Church for several years.
He enjoyed Model Railroading, was an avid reader, Patriots Fan, and enjoyed miniature golfing.
He leaves 3 sons James J. Hughes & his wife Suzanne of Barrington, NH, John J. Hughes & his wife Kelly of Green Bay, Wisconsin, & Brian C. Hughes of Rochester, NH, 1 daughter Christine Spiers & her husband Hugh of Kilmarnock, Scotland, 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Agnes Hughes.
Funeral Service in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple St., Lynn Tuesday at 11 AM. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date.
