Not sure what to say?

Dearest Patty,

My deepest condolences to you and your family. I am so very, very sorry.

Marian Neely-Carlson

John and I started law school together 34 years ago. It was great to reconnect with him working at the law school the last few years. His law and military training made him a superior problem solver. His tireless dedication to the veteran's program brought honor to the law school and helped so many.

I was privileged to work with John. Indeed, John was a leader, a mentor, and a friend. I will always remember his words of "wisdom", his humor, and his stories as a Marine. I will miss him.

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I only knew John briefly, having served on the Veteran's Court Task Force with him. I am a fellow veteran and a Judge who presides over a Veteran's Court in Madison County, Il. I had numerous conversations with John by phone and e-mail and found him to be a very gracious and kind individual. He will be sadly missed.

Dean Lynn was a true leader, educator, and mentor to every law student he ever met. He made me proud to be a Marine pursing a legal education and his drive was motivating. I am honored and humbled to have been one of his students. SIU Law and this nation has lost a patriot, leader, and gentleman. Semper Fi Dean Lynn.

Dean Lynn, I'll miss your can-do, no nonsense attitude, & your motivating words when Law School was getting me down.

Semper Fi, Sir.

Patty, I was sad to hear that John passed away. He gave so much of his time helping other veterans, including myself and several of my friends, and we will always be thankful. I always enjoyed talking to John at the law school and his presence will truly be missed.

I will always remember John for his kind words and support when our daughter, Lindsay, passed away while I was in law school.
John's legacy will be the veteran's program. I have kept his card in my middle desk drawer so I could pass the information to other vets if I thought John's program could help another vet.

Semper Fi!
