Dear Martha & Family,

I am sorry to hear that Johnny passed on. Along with my childhood best friends Jesse Laborin and Allen Daniels and my brother Thomas we met him back in the mid 70's. During that time there were only a handful of lowriders that would gather at the hamburger stand on Franklin Blvd.

We immediately nicknamed Johnny "Belush" after the famous stand up comedian John Belushi. Being around Johnny after a minute or two one would know how he earned this nickname.

Johnny was really funny and he could make everyone laugh with his quick and witty one liners. I always told him that he was in the wrong business because I honestly feel he could have made it as a stand up comedian.

Over the past decade or so we only seen each other at funerals but when one knew Belush it would feel as if time wasn't measured in years gone bye but rather by laughter and memories.

He was a good friend to my entire family and friends. John had a good heart and he will be missed!

Martha and Johnny, I was deeply sadden to hear of the loss of John. I will always remember his laugh and how much he loved you both so much. John had the biggest heart and was a very giving person. One thing I will always remember, if he saw you anyway on the street, he would always wave or say hello.

"The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace." Psalm 29:11

My heart goes out to Martha, John Jr, as well as the entire Navarrete Family. You have truly lost a great family member as we have lost a great friend.

I've known Johnny for about 30 years. I met Johnny when he got his cherry colored 64/63 Chevy Impala, which I think was James's car at some point.

We also shared a great friend, Henry Juarez, aka Big Hen. Johnny and Henry, always together.

Johnny will always live in our thoughts and heart. Johnny has left behind great memories to look back on.

God bless you Johnny. Not to worry, I'll check on Big Hen for you. Always, Marisa

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Johnny's passing. I have good memories of our youthful days, including James, Fernando and others from the Franklin Blvd area. Johnny was quiet, thoughtful and considerate. He said a lot with few words and positive acts. My heart goes out to the family, including his Uncle Gary who remains my good friend. God be with you. My family and the Navarrete Family go back quite some time. It has been a privilege and honor knowing them. I remember the days when Gus and my dad would sit at our dinner table discussing construction business. As the years continued it would be John and my dad talking business. John helped my dad on many occasions and we are deeply grateful for that. I'm sure the Navarrete legacy will continue on with little John. I saw his love and respect for his dad and mom. And that’s a reflection of the person he'll become. I send my sincere sympathy and apology to the entire family.
