Not sure what to say?

John had such a kind and gentle presence, he was thoughtful and wise, and always willing to help out wherever he could. His commitment to and participation in the Albany Mennonite Church family life was a precious gift. I spent several hours with John in a carpool drive to Drift Creek Camp in Sept. 2023. The time just flew by spending that time getting more acquainted with John. Regarding an item he left behind that I retrieved for him, he said "I must have unconsciously wanted to leave...

What an amazing man who left a wonderful legacy. I only knew him a short time while he attended Albany Mennonite. He attended the adult Sunday School class that I taught. He was so kind, humble, wise, and always willing to give thoughtful comments to the discussion! I wish I could have known him longer. He will be missed by many!

John had a smile on his face at all times it seems. Always very friendly and willing to help in any way he could. He is so missed at AMC.

We invited John to come to our Albany Peace Seekers meetings. He not only came, he volunteered for most committees. In particular, he helped interview the candidates from all three Albany high schools for the Peace Award we give each year. His wise insights influenced our choices; at one school, our Peace Award money was the only scholarship money the winner got, which we believe helped that winner's self-esteem. Thanks, John!

John was a close friend in college and a few years after. Freshman year we were on the same dorm floor at U of O. We shared lots of live music nights and adventures climbing Spencer's Butte. When John lived downtown in Eugene, his place was a hub of activity. He was an honest guy and philosophical about life and our responsibility to moral behavior. John was a straight up guy who I respected and listened to when he spoke. I am sad at his passing and grateful for the time we shared. Randers

As a member of AMC, I found John to be a gentle soul; funny and insightful. Miss him.

I became acquainted with John several years ago when he began attending Albany Mennonite Church. At a lunch for new attendees-he was one then-he volunteered to help cleanup. I knew he was a keeper and special man! LIkewise he volunteered to help build a home for homeless in Albany. I looked forward his help with trim and floors this spring. I'll miss his willingness to be involved but think of him always.

John became a person we looked forward to being with at church events and services. He brought calm joy to many of us. After reading this tribute I wish we had more time to share his adventures! He is missed!

John was a unique and beloved friend. His warmth, his deep convictions, and the twinkle in his eye enriched us all. We were honored to have him become a part of our church family and we miss him greatly.
