Not sure what to say?

A wonderful, gentle, and inspiring man who with a few thoughtful words made this hopelessly baffled twentysomething feel like he could take on the world. I'm proud to carry his wisdom with me to the very end of my life. Rest easy, John. I share my condolences with your family, and also their pride in having known a human being as remarkable as you.

I just learned of Mr. Reilly's death. I followed the Long View for years and feel lost without being able to turn to it for his insight, humor and true Christian point of view. His voice of reason will be missed in an unreasonable world. I cannot despair though, because that would not be true to his innate optimism.

John, Johnny to me, was such a wonderful man. It is comforting to read the messages left on this site. For my brother, my friend, Thank you. Johnny would say,"Thanks for stopping by."

I am also saddened, and shocked to learn of John's passing. I came to know him through his work at the Center for Millennial Studies, and found him to be forthright, and generous. I was trying to get in touch with him again, when I learned of his passing. "Spengler with a Smile" -- that says it all, I think. We should all be "Spengler with a Smile." Goodbye, John. I am sad for his family's loss as well.

I corresponded with John intermittently for fifteen years, starting when I reviewed one of his books in 1996, back when the Web was still young. He was a genuinely original thinker, coming up with ideas that mostly I disagreed with but which always made me think.

My condolences to his family and friends.

I feel like I've been reading Mr. Reilly's blog for most of my adult life. A great loss for this world and the world of ideas. He will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family.

I was very saddened to hear the news of John's death. We went back a long way, to 4th grade at St Al's Grammar School to be exact and then through St Peter's Prep and College. Truely a gentle man.

John was "a man for others" and a cultured, Christian gentleman. He will be sorely missed. "Vita mutatur non tollitur" '72

My condolences to Mr. Reilly's family and friends at this very sad time. I read his blog and website for many years. He had an original mind that I will greatly miss. May he rest in peace.
