John T. Shelley
June 24, 1933 - June 14, 2015
Macon, GA- John Shelley, age 81, passed away Sunday morning.
John was born in Byron to the late Oliver E. and Elafore Hancock Shelley. He later moved to Macon where he spent all of his adult life. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Shelley; and sister, Sara Shelley Clark.
Stationed in Germany, John proudly served his country in the United States Army. He later became employed with Robins Air Force Base where he retired as an Electronics Technician. John was a longtime member and deacon of Grace Primitive Baptist Church on Sardis Church Road. He loved his Lord, the church, and traveling across the country with bus tours. He will be remembered by his smile and handshake. But most of all, he will be remembered by his love for his family.
His memory will forever be treasured by his faithful and loving wife of 57 years, Annette Kitchens Shelley of Macon; son, Michael Shelley (Sheryl) of Kathleen; special grandson, Ryan Shelley of Kathleen; and sisters, Martha Grant and Lena Vining, both of Macon.
A Celebration of John's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the Chapel of Crest Lawn. Elder Daniel Bryant and Reverend Daniel Gatlyn will officiate. Interment will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Crest Lawn.
Because of John's love for his church, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grace Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Bryan Parish, 5872 Sardis Church Road, Macon, Georgia 31216; or to the charity of one's choice.
