John "Pete" Smith, 79, of Jackson, Mississippi, a native of Cortland, New York, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Vietnam Conflict who retired with the rank of colonel, a nurse's anesthetist for the University Medical Center before his retirement, died from heart failure at University Medical Center on Saturday, December 16, 2000. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, December 18, 2000, 4-8 p.m., at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home, 5235 Robinson Road, Jackson. Recitation of the rosary is scheduled for Monday, 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 19, 11 a.m., at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Interment will be at a later date in New York. Memorial donations are appreciated to Community Stew Pot, c/o Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home, 5235 Robinson Road, Jackson, MS 39204. Arrangements entrusted to Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home, Jackson, Mississippi.

Tom - I didn't realize your father was a Nam vet. I'll have to talk to you about it..where he was, when, what unit....I was there 68-71.
