Not sure what to say?

Dear Betty, I had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan at lunch in Austin two years ago with his friend and fellow explorer, Olaf Malver. He presented me with a wonderful gift - a signed copy of his book "The Urge To Know", which I proudly display on the family coffee table. I'm quite confident he's basking in morning sun at the top of a high peak and smiling down upon us! Please know you're in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Betty and Calvert family,
I had no idea until today that we had lost Jonty. We were friends for so many years! Amazingly, I was finally finishing his book this weekend and planning to call and congratulate him on it. He had a wonderful life and made the most of it. I know you are proud of him.We will all miss him.

Uncle Jonathan was the greatest example of using a life well. One couldn't help but be inspired by him.I'm blessed to have had him in my life and I know he's watching from a zenith...Debby

Jonathan had many facets to his personality because of his 'urge to know'. We met him on his and our first kayaking trip to East Greenland and the subsequent ones that followed. This grew into a twenty-one year friendship of travels, visits and celebrations between Massachusetts and Texas. Betty became an instant warm friend who spoke of family very dearly, - daughters, grandchildren and Buck and Sue. His personal guided tours of his beloved West showed us his favorite places which remain...

Kelly and I are saddened to hear of Jonathan's passing, but what a full life he had and what a tribute. We appreciate his management of Kelly's assets over the years and still see his fabulous photographs whenever we go to Argent Trust Company. We enjoy his coffee table book, too. He will be missed by all of us.

What a lovely tribute! Our memories of Jonathan's humor and wondrous stories, and his never failing kindness will remain with us as precious reminders of him. We loved his and Betty's visits to Santa Fe, and many delightful lunches at La Plazuela in La Fonda. Such an accomplished, close and wonderful family is a tribute to Jonathan, his forbears and those who learned from and come after him. May their memories of the wonderful times stay fresh, and Jonathan's example of philanthropy and...

Sincere condolences to Jonathan's family. My heart is greatly saddened by his passing. Jonathan left some meaningful footprints that will not be forgotten, and he will be forever missed.
