Joe Garran: 1930-2006
He was the first great golfer that I encountered when I joined St. Barnabas Friday Night Golf League in 1965. As a neophyte to the game, I looked up to him as a complete golfer. He could hit the ball with a swoosh a mile, it was straight and landed softly. He was adept with his irons and was a demon around the greens. He told me about the advantage of practice and concentration. He told me that he came to boston Hills after 8:30 PM then played hole No. 1 & 2. ...

Joe was a great competitor in all his endeavors. He was very instrumental in helping me and others develop their golf skills. I remember when he organized the "Dirty Dozen" when we played golf on Sunday Mornings at Boston Hills, then at Windmill Lakes. He did have the intellectual prowess to continue his knowledge in many spheres. He was willing to share his knowledge to all of us who that cared. He gave nicknames to Freddie the edge and others. He was a good friend of Bob Koren Judge...
