Not sure what to say?

I attended Kennedy High School, class of 1979. Had Mr. Hornyak for Modern World History. First day of class he began with the Big Bang. I asked him why, given that it was "modern" world history. His response: "You gotta start somewhere." I have told that story a million times over the years. Mr. Hornyak was one of the greats. I loved that class, and I loved him. Gifted, caring teacher. Filled the room. RIP

JFK class of 1974. Excellent teacher. Ive never forgotten his funny bit about Bulgaria. Anyone who had Mr. Hornyak knows what Im talking about. RIP dear man.

You will be remembered fondly as you truly cared about your students and made AP European History fun.

Mr. Hornyak was one of the nicest and most caring teachers I had a Kennedy and beyond. He really cared and we all knew it. So sorry for the loss to his family and to all of us to whom he made such a difference. Best-Susie Jacobson Cohen

Joe was a good and nice man. Was in the choir with him for
over 20 years at St. Jude's. May he rest in peace.

So very sorry to hear that Joe passed away. He and Rose were very dear friends of my parents. Joe and my dad, Richard Dumais, worked in MCPS together for over 30 years and then again at St. Vincent Pallotti High School. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Will never forget AP European History with Mr. Hornyak. Sharp, funny and insightful teacher, always had something extra to share with his students. My condolences to family, and thank you for sharing him with us.

Rest in Peace Mr. Hornyak. You were a great history teacher and Stephen Harris and his pals remember you fondly.

Stephen Harris, JFK High, Class of 1981

Mr. Hornyak was my history teacher at Kennedy in the early '80s. He was an amazing teacher, a mentor to many, and a really nice human being. I'm so very sorry to hear of his passing and I extend my deepest condolences to his family. May his memory be a blessing.
