Not sure what to say?

My Uncle Msgr Joesph Stieger was such a man of God! He loved our families and his parish so much! We were so blessed to have him as our uncle. Our mother Syra and uncle Joe were very close. He´s gone as well as our mother is too, they both are so missed but we know we will see them again. Thank you Uncle Joe for your love and your wisdom. God truly had a plan for you from your niece Joan and Ed our wedding picture from May 19th 1973. We will be celebrating our 50th this year. Wish you...

To all who remember Monsignor-- We met at San Joaquin Memorial High School when he was our chaplain and I was a sophomore. At the conclusion of a First Friday mass, Monsignor announced that his little St. Genevieve "Chinese" Catholic Church organist had retired. He requested that if anyone knew of an organist that might be available to please let him know. When I mentioned this to my mother, she volunteered, "Oh, that´s a cute little church. I´ll take you there. It became my parish for...

Fr Stieger, the good shepard with his young flock

Was it just "luck" or did my guardian angels guided me to find Fr Stieger's obituary. I was one of his Altar boys at St Genevieve church in Fresno, Calif. I thought of him often and frankly assumed that he had passed away years ago. I'm so glad to know that he lived such a wonderful life and I wished that I could have thanked him in person for all that he did for us. It was really special to be one of his Altar Boy. God Bless and may he be with the Saints and Angels in heaven. Thank you Fr...

Monsignor Stieger came to SLO Old Mission the summer before my sophomore year in high school. Everyone was thrilled with the new Pastor until he had to try to convince this parish they needed to contribute to the Diocesan annual Fund; I believe it was during his first year at the Parish. Father got a bum rap; never before had the contribution format been an issue. He wanted pledges; volunteer parishioners went door-to-door to church members' homes to try to get commitments. No matter which...

Monsignor Stieger was the finest example of a man made in the image of God. We were honored by his friendship and blessed by his prayers. His love, thoughtfulness and compassion will be dearly missed. Thank you, Monsignor, for serving the Lord every day in your special way.

Msgr. Steiger was a part of our family's life since we were little kids attending Mission School in the 70s. A few years ago, he offered to concelebrate our father's funeral. It was such a kind and thoughtful gesture--and the Mass was all the better for his participation. It felt like we'd come home again, closing the loop back to the early days, when the church and school were the centers of our lives. Rest in peace from a life well-lived and a job well done, Father Joe--you were one of...

We were parishioners at St. Angela's from 1981 to 1984, and kept in touch with Monsignor Joe ever since that time. Monsignor was a special blessing from God to all who knew him. His insight into human nature was captivating, and God's love for all humanity radiated through Monsignor's Homilies and his actions. He was a Saint, walking among us - evangelizing, as did the original Apostles. Thank you Monsignor for being our friend, and thank you God for putting Monsignor in our lives. Until we...

Msgr Stieger married my wife (his niece, Pat) and I at the Old Mission in SLO in 1975. I was a little guarded around him, he seemed stern and I was not Catholic. After the wedding mass he puts his arm around my shoulder, smiles and tells me he had his fingers crossed so if I needed an out... I will miss the very kind face of the Church.
