Joshua Schaefer Obituary
Josh was born Oct. 18, 1986, to Richard and Kathy Schaefer in Concord.
Josh graduated from Hopkinton High School in 2005. After graduating he received a bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary engineering and management from Clarkson University. Josh also received a master of business administration from the University of New Hampshire.
Josh was a kind hearted and a sensitive person. This was evident by the way he interacted with his niece, nephew, close friends and family. He enjoyed fishing, golf, basketball and being outdoors.
Josh was predeceased by his father, Richard Schaefer, in 2012.
His family members include his mother Kathy (Starkey) Schaefer of Contoocook, a brother Ricky Schaefer of Contoocook, a sister Jessamyn Delude and her Husband Donald and their two children Kyleigh and Dreesen of Hopkinton; his grandparents Richard and Eleanor Schaefer of Contoocook, and John and Sandy Starkey of Webster, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Josh's memory to the Hopkinton Fire Department Auxiliary, 9 Pine St., Hopkinton, NH 03229.
The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangement.

I am deeply troubled to hear about Josh's passing. He was far too young to go.
In my own mourning process, I've found it useful to focus on how great a person he was and what a positive impact he had on my life. Josh was a genuine leader. This goes back to when I started working at Market Basket grocery store and he was already assuming the role of "up front" assistant manager. In this role, I saw his ability to network and to manage people shine through. I then learned that he planned on attending Clarkson University after high school, a college I was interested in but what really put the icing on the cake as far as me going there was his general excitement about the place in lieu of its somewhat unattractive location. At Clarkson, in addition to seeing Josh thrive academically in both engineering and more relevantly, corporate finance, I saw him as a solid athlete, role model, an amazing networker, and a true friend to everyone despite the social barriers that tend to interfere when engineers and businesspeople interact. These positive character attributes are some I think we can all try to integrate into our own lives to try to make the world a better place.
My heart goes out to all of Josh's family. I cannot overstate the impact he had on my own life as both a true friend and a mentor.

So sorry to learn this terrible news.
I met Josh freshman year back at Clarkson. I can whole heartedly say that I've never met a kinder person than Josh. Josh had a magical way with words that could put a smile on anyone's face. It didn't matter if you were an old friend, or just happened to be crossing paths. He was a great guy, he will truly be missed.
