Joyce Arleine Emery, of Boston, Massachusetts, born on July 20, 1927 in Lincoln, New Hampshire, passed away at age 91 on April 12, 2019 in Los Angeles, California with her family surrounding her. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Emery Gonzales and Elena Emery Gonzales, son John Vincent Gonzales and wife Mary, grandson Brian Emery Bardellini and wife Lauren, and grand-daughter Danielle Rose Bardellini, and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, John and Marie (Dufresne) Emery, and siblings Jack, Frank, Bob, Marie, Ginny, Joan and Walter predeceased her. For those interested, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Joyce's name to a charity of your choice, especially one dedicated to curing Alzheimer's.
Joyce spent her childhood in and around Boston. She attended Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse, her lifelong career and passion. It was while working as a nurse in Illinois that she met and married her husband, Dr. Romulo Gonzales. They eventually settled in Pittsburgh, PA where they raised their children, and later moved to Fresno, CA. Joyce started a new chapter of her life after a divorce, experiencing new adventures in her work and travel.
Joyce was indeed a joyful and kind person. She loved and cherished through word and action, her family, her many friends from all walks of life, traveling, celebrating holidays, cooking, the beaches of the Cape, Hawaii and Venice, giraffes, beanie babies and all things Disney, Yosemite, the Boston Red Sox and the LA Dodgers, giraffes, crocheting, gemstone jewelry, antiques, the slot machines of Vegas, a good cup of coffee and a pastry, baking, and reading about different cultures and places. Most especially, she loved being "Joycie RN" and caring for her family, and the friends she met along the way, with warmth, compassion, and always a smile. She was unique and unforgettable.
The family is planning a celebration of life which will take place in the upcoming months.
Not sure what to say?

I have many happy memories of Aunt Joyce in my childhood. The last time I saw her was when she came to be with us when my father, her brother Bob, died. She helped get us through a difficult time. I hope your many memories help you during this time.
