November 19, 1955 – April 29, 2025
Bakersfield – Juan Valdez, known to many as Johnny, left this earth on April 29th, 2025. He was born on November 19th, 1955, the seventh of fourteen children to Rafael and Oralia Valdez.
A proud East Sider, Johnny was born and raised on the East Side of Bakersfield and graduated from EBHS. During his time at EBHS, he wrestled, played in the marching band, and served on the student body. After high school, he served in the Navy. Later, he built a career as a tile setter and eventually ran his own company, Agape Tile, before retiring.
Johnny was often the silliest one in the room and he was never afraid to speak his mind. Johnny had a unique way of getting a laugh out of everyone he talked to. He'll be remembered for his generous heart–he'd give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He enjoyed music, church, watching sports, playing pool, and bowling.
Johnny married his best friend, Diana, and they remained together for 33 years. His legacy lives on through his four children: Benjamin, Faith, Moses, and Angel and his eight grandchildren.
A visitation will be on Monday, May 19th, 2025 at 1010 Height St., 93305 from 10 am-11 am, followed immediately by funeral services from 11am-1:30 pm. The graveside service will occur at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 2pm.

I will always remember and cherish the time I got to spend with my Uncle Jhonny and Auntie Diana when they came to visit with me in Seattle, WA.
We had a great time together visiting, sharing memories, and just catching up on life. He will remain in my heart and prayers. I ask the lord to allow him to look after my son from heaven and be his guide as he embarks on a career at sea. Sending my deepest condolences to my Aunt and to the rest of the Valdez family.
