Julia Scholten Obituary
May 9, 1940 - Sep 7, 2017
Julia died after a short illness with cancer. After her diagnosis she approached each day with strength and determination. She was born in Modesto to Menno and Gertrude Scholten. She is survived by her two sisters, Greta Katen and Nancy Bancroft (Alan), and seven nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Norma Hammond. Julia graduated from Modesto High School and UC Davis with a teaching credential in Home Economics. She lived most of her adult life next to the ocean in Redondo Beach, CA while teaching at Culver City High School. She also taught for two years at an air force base in Germany, which ignited a curiosity and passion for traveling. She traveled to all 7 continents and 50 countries, bringing home a love of art, food and culture. Julia was an avid reader and talented in photography, sewing, knitting, quilting, cooking and baking. She had a gift for making everything she touched more beautiful. She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach and served as a deacon. We grieve her loss but not her death, for she is with the Lord.
Graveside service will be held on Fri., Sep. 22, 10am at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave., Hughson.

Deepest Sympathy to Julia's family! Her sister's were very dear to her. She often talked about them. I taught with Julia at Culver City High School and a couple of years at the Junior High. My daughter was in her Home Ec. class in Junior High. Many special memories of Julia! Thinking of Julia and her fm. during this difficult time!
