It is with deep sadness that I learned today of the death of my former colleague, Juris Padegs. It was my great pleasure to be associated with him during my years in Tokyo in charge of the affairs of Scudder, Stevens and Clark in the late eighties and early nineties. He was an elegant and most gracious adviser and friend. I always enjoyed his explanations of his heritage and I always admired his devotion to it.
