Karlene, you were a great listener and a thoughtful responder--so easy to talk about anything with you. Miss you as much today as when we first lost you.

Today, April 13, 2014, is a beautiful Sunday--a day in 1959 when Karlene, Carol,Nancy,Diane and I would take off for nowhere in my '51 Chevy and drive around rural Coshocton talking about whatever 17 year olds talked about in the 50's. Hopes, dreams, fears, and funny stories. She remains in my memory forever. Jean Benning

As a lover of libraries, I have always been in awe of Karlene and her work at both OSU and I thought at OCLC. I may have remembered everything all wrong but will continue anyway to give her the credit for helping establish both the data bases and networks for sharing books. She was a leader and an inspiration to women like me.
