Not sure what to say?

It is with sadness I learned of Kate´s passing. We were colleagues and friends during our time at Bank Street College beginning in the mid-1990´s. I remember Kate with warmth and respect. When Kate was my graduate student in Science for Teachers, in my ignorance I said, "They were "gypted" out of a deal." After class I saw a note under my office door letting me know that was a derogatory phrase for Roma people. The next class session I discussed this with the entire class and thanked Kate....

Kate, you have no idea how far the ripples spread. Your kindness, intelligence and integrity have touched countless humans. I can't tell you how many times a fellow teacher walks into my room and looks at the tracks of a math lesson and says something like, "Oh! What a smart way to show that!" It is always something I learned from you. And I'll never miss a chance to swim in a lake because of you. You are so missed.

I just learned of Katies' passing. So very sad. Though I haven't her since high school I remember her as a wonderful human being inside and out. May the memories of her lifr live on in the hearts of family and friends forever. Rest in peace Katie. You will be missed. Duane & Karla Hollendyke
