Woodfin Funeral Chapel - Smyrna Obituary

Katherine “Sis” Mosers’ aged hands and tender heart gently nurtured five generations of family.

Smyrna resident Mrs. Moser, mother of Pat Whittle and her husband Dan; and grandmother to three loving grandsons, Karey, Nick, and Ben Amick, died following a long illness with Alzheimer’s Disease.

“As a loving example of compassion, Mother was the reigning matriarch of five living generations before she passed,” accounted daughter Pat. “We cannot express ample appreciation back to The Arbors’ caregivers who swathed Mom in love, kisses, flowers and flowing music as she took her last sweet breath.”

Through spiritual faith and gifted talents of music and art, Mrs. Moser’s circle of life impacted thousands.

“In her teen years, she and her music-gifted family helped hundreds of Nashville families get through their grief of losing loved ones,” confirmed the late Rev. Robert Burgess, who attended Cofer’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with “Sis” during their youth. “And through her floral arrangements, she helped bring beauty and dignity to funerals and weddings.”

At age 93, “Sis” was one of the last living Nashville natives who witnessed a T-model Ford being driven across the frozen-over Cumberland River.  As a child, she rode a Sunday trolley with her father, who tended the refrigeration room at the Standard Oil Company.

Throughout adult life, “Sis” listened for the forlorn-sounding train whistles in the night that signaled the end of husband Homer “Pop” Moser’s daily L & N railroad run between Cowan and Nashville.

“Homer had a certain series of train whistle ‘toots’ as he was coming back into Nashville, that signaled it was time for me to start putting supper on the table,” Sis confirmed. “He was always hungry when coming in from his long train runs.”

“To love God, was to love God’s people,” confirmed the late Rev. Mr. Burgess, who shared receiving health care at Smyrna’s Azalea Court assisted living before Mrs. Moser required care at the adjacent Arbor’s facility. “Mr. and Mrs. Moser did that through longtime and faithful service to others at Nashville’s Una Baptist Church on Murfreesboro Road.”

In later years, Mrs. Moser attended Smyrna Parkway Baptist Church with her daughter and family members.

She is also survived by her brother, Harold Nickens and her sister, Agnes Baker; along with ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna. Brother Dan Parker will officiate. The family will meet at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Thursday at 1:00 p.m. for a Committal service. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna.

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials, in memory of Mrs. Moser, can be made to Parkway Baptist Church.

Not sure what to say?

Your Mom always greeted me with a smile. A lovely woman. She was in Azalea with my Mom Mary Creecy and sat at the same table with her. Mom was also with her at the Arbors. I am so sorry. She was a beautiful person and from reading the obituary had a loving filled life. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

to the family of "sis". I had the pleasure of knowing sis at Azalea. She was my favorite lady and loved talking to her and making sure she had a nice dinner.I visited her and her sister at Arbors after she moved. was good to see her. She will always be remembered.

Sorry for your loss. You will always miss your mother.

Pat,
You are in my thoughts and prayers. I'll always remember your mom's kind words and her smile.
