June 10, 1927 - Oct 3, 2014
Kenneth, a native Californian, was born in Berkeley, CA during the Great Depression. He attended Berkeley High School, but left school and home when he was 15. By tricking his parents into signing consent forms, he joined the Merchant Marines because he wanted to be a part of the war effort. Returning home at 18, and because of his cook's training, he was drafted into the Navy where he continued as a cook and served until World War II ended.
As the cook on a sea-going tugboat, each Merchant Marine crew member was assigned to an anti-aircraft gun in case of attack. The tugboat's assignment was to tow portable dry docks to various islands throughout the South Pacific for repairing the Navy's damaged ships. Early in the war many of those islands were near or part of enemy territory with some in a heavy war zone.
Once the war ended Ken returned to his home in Berkeley and finished his high school education, then on to college where he studied engineering. Working for the Herrick Corporation in Hayward at the time, he was often in charge of the steel framing on many sky scrapers throughout the west. He finished his career working for Universal Security Corp. who specialized in making jail equipment and remodeling jails.
In January of 1950, Kenneth married Mabel Ann Weeks The couple has five grown children.
Ken has always been active within his community: PTA, Dad's Club, Little League, Cubs and Boy Scouts through his Church where he also taught Sunday School and Primary. He supported the high school sports programs all through the years his sons participated in baseball and football. He loved animals and the family always had a cat or dog, often both, with Ken bringing home strays or pets his friends could no longer keep.

He is survived by her and their children: Deborah Schultz, her husband Mark, Julie McKillop, her husband Tim, Kevin Romick, his wife Mary, Keith Romick, his wife Sabina and Kenneth Romick, Jr., his wife Peggy, 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
