Obituary

BROOKS, Lawrence D. "Pappy" Sr., born December 10, 1922 to Emanuel and Lily Edwards Brooks, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Louise W. "Sue" Brooks. He is survived by his son, Lawrence Brooks Jr. "Junie" and his wife, Cheryl; grandson, Lawrence Brooks III "Larry" and wife, Kelley, of King William, Va.; granddaughter, Amy Spangler and husband, John; five great-grandchildren, Sara and Taylor Brooks, Raelynn and Samuel Newsome and Mackenzie Spangler; sister-in-law, Ella "Dot" Woodall of Shepherd, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Brooks was retired from Crawford Manufacturing Company with 43 years of service. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 24. Interment in Salem Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
