Leo Kerr Obituary

Kerr, Leo Frederick, born July 23, 1925, died on Sunday October 9, 2011 after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ida and Charles DeWyer and his younger brother Charles. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucille Palmatier Kerr, and their children, Philip and his wife Barbara, Bob and his wife Linda, and John and his wife Irene; and by his sisters, Nonie Cowie, Charlene Parker, and Esther Morrison and her husband Jerry; and by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and served in the Pacific during World War II. He became the Executive Director of Purchasing for the Dade County School System in Miami, serving the State of Florida with distinction. He was actively involved in Scouting for many years and was a leader in his local church. He was a member of the Masonic Order, a Shriner, and loved attending their annual dances with his wife, Lucille. He will be greatly missed because of his loving nature and gentle spirit, and was an honorable man. The family will receive friends at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lighthouse Point on Thursday, October 13 from 10-11 am. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted by the Rev. Dennis Redstone beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Southern Memorial Park at 14990 West Dixie Highway in North Miami at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice, the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Van Orsdel Funeral Home, 3333 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL.
