Merle Glen Flint the son of Nels and Martha (Pedersen) Flint was born January 9, 1920 in Ringsted, Iowa. He passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa at the age of 93. Leona Elnora (Oleson) Flint, the daughter of Martin and Esther (Mitchell) Oleson was born September 1, 1920, in Armstrong, Iowa. Leona passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont, Minnesota, at the age of 92. Merle attended Ringsted Schools. On October 15, 1941, Merle enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. Leona graduated from Halfa High School, and then attended Estherville Junior College. Leona moved to Oakland, California and worked at Bank of America. She returned to the Ringsted area with her brother Arnold and Merle in his brand new 1946 Ford. On June 15, 1947 the couple was united in marriage. They made their home in Ringsted and farmed for many years. Most people that knew Leona have a memory of her with a crocheted hand towel in their home. Visitors that would stop by the Flint home would never go away hungry. Merle and Leona were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver. Merle was a member of the American Legion and Farm Bureau. Left to cherish Leona and Merle's memory are their; children, Nancy Flint of Estherville; Connie (Larry) Richard of Leon, Iowa; Becky (Tom) Bortvit of Branson, Missouri; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; Leigh (Marty, Clayton, Wyatt) Moore; Leslie Richard; Darryl (Sheila, Brittany, Thomas) Bortvit; Kevin (Mary, Kayla, Jacob) Bortvit; Tammy (Chad, Devin) Binger) Crystal Bortvit (Mike Starr); Leona's sisters-in-law, Ruth Oleson and Charlotte Oleson; and Merle's brother, Larry (Sylvia) Flint. Preceding Merle and Leona in death are their parents; daughter, Kristie; Leona's brothers and sister, Maynard and Arnold Oleson and Meryl Christensen; Merle's brother and sister, Glen Flint and Darlene Flint. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver.
