Mundwiler & Larson Funeral Homes - Milbank Obituary

Mundwiler Larson Funeral Home of Clinton announces the death of LeRoy Mathison, age 71, of Beardsley. Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Beardsley, MN. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 5-7:00 PM at the Mundwiler & Larson Funeral Home in Clinton. Visitation will continue ½ hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Pastor Anna Williamson will be officiating and burial will be at the Clinton City Cemetery in Clinton. LeRoy Jerome Mathison was born on March 12, 1941 in Artichoke Township, MN to parents Noral and Bernice (Redfield) Mathison. LeRoy was baptized in the Lutheran faith. He attended country school in Artichoke Township at the 8 Corner Schoolhouse, which is now displayed at the Museum in Ortonville; until the 6th grade. He then attended school in Appleton until the 8th grade. After his schooling, he helped farm on the family farm. He continued to farm until 1988 when he began working for Bituminous Paving; where he worked until 1999. At that time, because of LeRoy's health he was unable to continue working. After LeRoy quit working, he was the self-proclaimed county Crop Checker of Big Stone County. He drove all over in Suzie, looking at the crops but would always be home by dark. He enjoyed watching the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune and he had the gift of visiting; he loved to chat with everyone. He also liked to buy tools and make woodworking projects. LeRoy was blessed with three children – two boys and one girl; and one Granddaughter, Makayla. He treasured the time that he was able to spend with all of his family. LeRoy passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, on Makayla's sweet 16th birthday, at the Wheaton Community Health Center in Wheaton, the same hospital where she was born. LeRoy had lived to reach the age of 71 years. LeRoy is survived by his children: John Mathison of Clinton; Danille (Paul) Levenson of Buffalo, MN and Lee Mathison of Beardsley; granddaughter Makayla Mathison of Twin Brooks, SD; brother William Clifton of Ortonville; sisters: Judi Parsons of Hibbing, Deanna (Wayne) Hobson of Caledonia, IL; Becky (Randy) Stattelman of Ortonville; his cat Pinky; and many cousin, nieces, nephews and friends. LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents.
