A private home going service will be held for Mrs. Lila Johnson-Thomas who passed on April 25, 2020. HER SERVICES WILL BE STREAMED LIVE SATURDAY AT 2 PM USING THE YOUTUBE LINK ON THE WILSON FUNERAL HOME'S FACEBOOK PAGE.
Mrs. Lila Johnson Thomas was born April 30, 1931 in Fairmount, North Carolina to the parentage of Willie and Mae Hagans. Lila graduated Cum Laude 2 nd in her class from the Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia with a degree in Home Economics. She furthered her education at the University of Tampa where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Lila taught Home Economics and Cosmetology at Robinson High School in Tampa. She also taught students at Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind how to cook. Lila was also the owner and operator of Pacesetter Beauty Salon on Nebraska Avenue for many years. She has been a devoted and dedicated member for over 50 years at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Port Tampa. Lila was a very educated business woman; she was a role model for many young women in the Port Tampa area. She was always generous and would help anyone who needed her assistance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Mae Hagans; her husbands, Johnny Johnson, Roy Thomas, and sister Freda King.
Mrs. Thomas leaves to cherish her memories with her nephew, Ronald Hagans, of Tampa, Florida; her sister, Wilhelmina Martin in Newport News, Virginia; her special niece, Lila Cookie Thomas in White Plains, NY; and special friend, Facunda Arenas.
There will be a viewing on Friday May 8, 2020 at Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N.29th Street, Tampa, Florida from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of the current restrictions from the CDC, we are asking that you use the visitation as an opportunity to pay your final respect. For your convenience and
safety, we have extended our visitation hours.
