Anderson- Linda Harter Hipsher, 70, of Anderson, departed from this earthly life on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. Linda passed away at her home, surrounded by her daughters and dear friends, after a 27-month heroic fight with breast cancer.
Linda was born (October 12, 1947) and raised in Georgetown, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late James Edward and Zetha Alford Harter. An outgoing, involved student and homecoming queen, she graduated from Winyah High School and attended the University of South Carolina. She moved from the South Carolina coast in 1981 to Anderson, where she ran a catering business and raised her two daughters.
Surviving are her daughters, Nicole Turner Taylor and husband, James Henry Taylor, Jr. of Anderson, and Katherine Elizabeth Shaw Hipsher (“Shaw”) of Charlotte, NC and their father, John Hipsher; grandchildren, James Henry Taylor III and Sophia Shaw Taylor; and brothers, Charles “Charlie,” Larry (Nancy), Jerry “Jock” (Diana), and Wynfred “Dumpy” Harter (Diane). She was preceded in death by her dear friend, Odell Short.
A person of high energy, Linda was an active YMCA member and avid gardener who enjoyed hiking and picnicking in the mountains. Previously, she was a devoted tennis and racquetball player, as well as a runner.
Often sought for her advice and humor, Linda was compassionate, positive, and exceedingly kind and generous. A beautiful friend, a great dancer, an excellent cook, and a wonderful mother and grandmother, she will be dearly missed. Linda believed - as her own mother had - that you feed your soul by doing for others. This was something she practiced daily without hesitation. Almost to a fault, she put others first and was extremely selfless in how she spent her time, talents, and resources- as shown by the twenty-plus years she spent caring for her brother, Charlie, in her home.
Linda taught her daughters how to treat others fairly, be a good friend, and be creative problem solvers. She loved children and planned many special and educational outings for the children in her life. She especially enjoyed her time with her precious grandbabies, Henry and Sophie.
Linda and her daughters are eternally grateful for the amazing community of friends who showed up, supported, and nurtured her in mind, body, and spirit.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Clean Start (219 Townsend St, Anderson, SC 29625), Team Drea Foundation (4117 Philadelphia St., Raleigh, NC 27606), or AIM (1202 South Murray Avenue, Anderson, SC 29624).
