Adams & Swanson Funeral Home - North Platte Obituary

Lynn Everett Schultz passed away November 29, 2024, surrounded by his family at Great Plains Health at the age of 90. He hung on hard through Thanksgiving listening to his family tell stories and listening to their laughter. Legally named Lynn E. on his birth certificate by accident, he went by Everett as his mother intended.  Born to Lake Schultz and Bertha Doudna, on April 20, 1934, while they lived in Sommerset, Ne.

Everett grew up on the ranch at Sommerset attending country school there, went on to Curtis Ag School till the 9th grade. But he had to quit, coming home to help his mother on the ranch after his dad became ill and he was unable to return to school. But he never stopped learning. He took many college classes over his lifetime. He could see anything and figure out how to make it even if he had to “cobble” it together with whatever he had, from duct tape to baling wire. A talent his grandkids were amazed and amused by over the years. He met Mary Jane as a child, fell in love with her as a teenager. A story he cherished even at her death bed in January. Then at 17 and 18 years old they went to the North Platte courthouse with both sets of parents for witnesses. They were told no marriages were being done that day, but any pastor would marry them. They went to the closest one and tied the knot on August 25,1952. Mary and Everett traveled the following years with Everett’s oil and water drilling work.  His adventurous brave heart helped him survive engine explosions, burns, frost bite, and climbing up to caves in the Mesa Verde.  Everett not only learned to drill wells he learned about rock and soil formations and how to overhaul the rigs and trucks. While traveling from state to state, daughter Deborah, sons Jim, Scott and Randy were born.  He joined the National Guard where they taught him a new skill, to cook. But when he tried to join the army, they told him he had too many children. They returned to Maywood Ne to be near family when their son Randy was burned in a home accident. Everett worked at Dodson’s International Dealership as a mechanic till he started farming, eventually settling on a farm near Wellfleet. He calf roped, team roped and did wild horse races with together his brother Jerry for many years. Everett and Mary completed their family, while living on the farm, with daughters Misty and Katy. Everett continued farming for several years and working at the Union Pacific Railroad. They moved into Wellfleet then to a country place near North Platte where they lived out their lives until he retired from the railroad. He built a huge greenhouse to grow fruits and vegetables. During his retirement he was a faithful member of the Foursquare Church, taking the God Mobile with many friends, including Harold Reeves and Gary Ricketts to fairs and other events. As well as meeting his Railroad friends for coffee, he was a member and officer of Full Gospel Men Fellowship. He was a member of several Christian groups and bible studies at church. He and Mary traveled and fished as well as hosting every Thanksgiving and Christmas. His greatest joy was teaching his grandkids and kids to play cards and beating them at games. Everett was married for 71 years to the love of his life, Mary Jane.
