Porter Funeral Home - Jamestown Obituary

Mable Louise Gowin Clemens was born November 23, 1942 in Roachdale, IN to Edgar M. Gowin and Helen A. (Boswell) Gowin, raised by Aaron Gayle Pickel. Mable died August 1, 2020 in Hendricks County Hospital of lung cancer. She was 77 years old. Mable lived the last years of her life fully, with humor, grace, and joy as she did all of her 77 years.

Mable was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, David Joe Clemens, SR., who she married on December 12, 1960, her parents, her sisters Mary Etta Gowin, Sandra (Pickel) Lumpkin and brother Edgar M. Gowin, Jr., her other dad, Aaron Gayle Pickel and her grandson, Maverick Whaley.

Mable is survived by her son David Joe Clemens Jr. (Little Joe), and spouse Bonnie and her daughter Tina Clemens Spears and spouse Jerry Spears of Crawfordville, IN. She is also survived by David and Bonnie’s children; Lisa and Alawnzo Whaley and their 4 children; Michelle and Chad Cottrell with 2 children; Nikki Oats (Johnson) and Josh Johnson with 7 children; David Clemens III and Page Millburg with 2 children; Tina and Jerry Spears’s daughter Sarah Clemens, Gulfport, MS and her two children.

Mable is survived by her siblings and their spouses: Larry and Clara Gowin of Spencer, IN; Shirlee Lane of Conroe, TX; Lisa (Pete) Ward of Carpentersville, IN & Covington, LA; David and Kathy Pickel of Whitestown, IN; Debbie “The Rock” Pickel and Marlou Beader of Westfield, IN; John Pickel (Professor) of  Winston-Salem, NC.

Mable Louise (Gowin) Clemens was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and sister. She was the beloved aunt to a generation of nieces and nephews. She was the matriarch of the Gowin, Pickel and Clemens clans. She loved deeply and was loved deeply in return. Her passing has left a hole that can never be filled, but her life of love, kindness and generosity of spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Later Mable!

Not sure what to say?

So sorry to hear of Mable's passing. She was a joy to have in the office. She will be missed by all of our office staff. Her smile could brighten anyone's day. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

My heart grieves for your loss of dear Mable. You will cherish many treasured memories in the days ahead. Praying for all of you to feel GOD's peace that passes all understanding!

I’m so sorry to hear about Mable’s passing. She was always ready with a smile and a funny line when I took my class to the cafeteria at Wells. The last time I saw her we stood in the Dollar Tree and talked for about 45 minutes catching up with each other. I just remember how proud she was talking of her family. I will keep her loved ones lifted up in prayer.

So very sorry for your loss

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family. Sending love from Arizona. Fly high cousin and tell our moms hello.
