Martha MORAN Obituary

MORAN, Martha "Jane" 82, passed away peacefully on July, 15, 2014, after a lingering illness. Born in Malden, MO, to Han-sford and Helen Rouse, she graduated from Malden (MO) High School, and attended Ward-Belm-ont College in Nashville. She was briefly married to Air Force pilot Lt. Kent Humphrey, who was tragically killed in action during the Korean War. Their son Kent was born shortly after his death. In 1957, she married family physician Dr. Leo Moran, who was stationed at Malden Air Force Base. They moved to California, where they were blessed with a daughter, and then to Minnesota, where they were blessed with two more children. They moved to Clearwater in 1971. Jane was a devout Catholic, who excelled in volunteering. She positively touched many, many lives with her volunteer efforts at church, in schools, and in the community. In Minneapolis she served on the board of The Way, a program for minority youth. She also managed a food pantry for the poor. In Florida she volunteered for many years at Clearwater Head Start. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, entertaining, hosting gourmet dinner parties, and watching Gators and Buccaneers football. Whatever Jane did, she did with great enthusiasm, flair, and a beautiful smile. She is survived by her loving husband, Leo of 57 years; and four children and three grandchildren, Kent of Clearwater, Cindy (and Todd) of Milwaukee, WI, John (and Kim) and children Chelsea and Jordan of Palm Harbor, and Karen (and Paul) and son Kyle of Longwood. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Jo McGregor; and three nephews in Auburn, CA; and brother, Charles in Cape Girardieu, MO. Jane was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be forever missed but never forgotten. There will be joy in heaven with her entry. The family would like to thank Dr. Ray Hansen, Sr. and the staff of Emeritus at Dunedin Assisted Living for their dedicated care.In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please send donations to Alzheimer's Disease Research. A public gathering will be held on Sunday, July 20, from 3-5 pm, at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 am, on Monday, July 21, at Light of Christ Catholic Church of Clearwater. Interment Rites will take place at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. As a son in law, when my mother passed away from cancer almost 25 years ago, Jane, as she put it, "took on the duties" of being my mother as well.

We'll all miss her and her mothering.

From, as she called me,

Jane was one of the sweetest and kindest people I've ever met. When I first met her nearly 20 years ago, she welcomed me into the family with open arms, and through all those years, treated me as if I was one of her own children. I'll miss her tremendously, and am comforted by the fact I know she is resting comfortably with God in heaven.

My heart and thoughts are with you all there in Clearwater, even though I was not able to attend the beautiful funeral service held in Jane's honor today. I know Aunt Jane is in heaven, and I am certain there is a celebration happening there, celebrating her arrival! I remember how kind and classy Jane was. I was a little girl when Uncle Leo introduced us to his beautiful new bride. I recall I thought Aunt Jane looked like a beautiful movie-star! And I remember meeting my cool new cousin, Kent. I will keep you all in my prayers, including dear Aunt Jane! Much Love to you, Always! ~Shelly Sullivan O'Brien
