Dear Kate--I was so sorry to learn of Marty's death. I send my deepest condolences to you and the family. He made a massive contribution to our field and was also a kind and generous person. He will be greatly missed. Thinking of you at this difficult time.

Dear Kate, I was shocked and saddened to learn today of Marty's passing. Marty was a brilliant economist who I
knew when we came up to Oxford in the autumn of 1961. He was doing a study on the British NHS under Ursula Hicks, but still intended at that time to become a medical doctor. However, he soon became intrigued by econometrics, switched to Nuffield, and you know the rest. Marty was always a super academic. I wasn't and moved first to the Federal Reserve and then into...

A true giant in his field and a great guy. I was saddened to hear this. He educated an entire generation of economists and businesspeople.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I worked for Marty in the 1990s. I learned a great deal from him and I will always reflect fondly of him and my years at the NBER. My deepest sympathies to his family, friends and all that he taught and were mentored by him over the years.
